Star ccm+ residuals not converging
Webb1 mars 2024 · STAR CCM+ is a breakthrough technology that enables you to repair cracks, pits and other surface problems on concrete. Learn more with Skill-Lync.STAR CCM+ is a breakthrough technology that enables you to repair cracks, pits and other surface problems on concrete. Learn more with Skill-Lync. WebbCFD convergence is not an exact science. The CFD engineer relies on three tools to judge when a simulation finishes: monitors, flow patterns, and residuals. But none of these tools work 100% of the time. The well-trained engineer understands how to use these tools and how to combine them into a cohesive picture and reliably judge a converged CFD …

WebbYou set this up like a FSAE car which is probably fine but floating point exception means there’s an unsolvable point or something that instantly diverged si somewhere it’s “divided by 0”. It could be the mesh or the solver and while sometimes K-w can have convergance issues, it’s probably the mesh in this case. WebbBy default, the residuals are normalized in STAR-CCM+. Starting from a good initial solution won't decrease the normalized residuals very much. You should switch off the …
WebbBy default, the residuals are normalized in STAR-CCM+. Starting from a good initial solution won't decrease the normalized residuals very much. You should switch off the normalization to see the true residual values. Convergence within a time step should be reached after 10-30 inner iteration, if not, then reduce the time step size. WebbCCM normalizes all residuals by default. Try turning off normalization on the monitors to see the true value. In my experience your residuals look perfectly fine. I will not be …
WebbKeep in mind that the default settings in Star-CCM+ show relative residuals, meaning that they are the ratio of the current residual error to the error near the beginning of the simulation. As such, if using relative residuals, your final "converged" values will be entirely dependent on how good your initial conditions were.
