The most common bismuth minerals are bismuthinite and bismite, but most bismuth is recovered as a by-product from lead processing. Relation to Mining Most bismuth is produced from mines in China, Mexico and Bolivia. WebBismuth-209 is an isotope. Scientists used to think it was the heaviest stable isotope. However, studies have actually found that bismuth-209 is unstable and decays into thallium-205 through alpha decay. It has a half-life of about 20,000,000,000,000,000,000 years and is very weakly radioactive.
